PECS co-developer, Lori Frost, MS, CCC-SLP; Pyramid US Clinical Director, Catherine Horton, MS, CCC-SLP, BCBA; and Pyramid US Consultants, Jo-Anne Matteo, MS, CCC-SLP and Jill Waegenaere, MA, CCC-SLP presented “Imagine More Collaboration: Hot Topics in AAC” at the 2019 ASHA Convention in Orlando, Florida. SLPs and Behavior Analysts often have differing views regarding how to best teach AAC skills. This presentation explored several of the major hot topics including aided language, core vocabulary, presumed competence, and prompting strategies. Differences in jargon and teaching approaches were explored, with compromises and practical implementation suggestions proposed as a bridge to collaboration between the fields.
