Session Abstracts:

Hot Topics in AAC: Merging Clinical Perspectives to Ensure Independent Communicators: SLPs and Behavior Analysts often have differing views regarding AAC. This presentation will explore four hot topics including aided language, core vocabulary, presumed competence and prompting strategies. Differences in jargon and teaching approaches will be explored, with compromises and practical implementation suggestions proposed as a bridge to collaboration between fields. View the handout here.

Pyramid Certified Classrooms: Incorporating Communication into ABA Classrooms While Keeping Everyone Smiling!: Treatment goals for speech-language pathologists and behavior analysts often overlap. This presentation will provide an overview of ABA, as well as collaborative recommendations. A functional classroom approach to implementing ABA, known as the Pyramid Approach to Education, will be described with emphasis on successfully implementing communication skills within educational environments.
